Thank You, Sister
DIRECTOR: Aubrey Daval
FORMAT: Feature Length Documentary
SHOOT DAYS: Ongoing
LOCATION: New Orleans, LA / NYC / Los Angeles
BUDGET: 550,000
LOGLINE: Directed by a series of divine revelations beginning in 1934, Sister Gertrude Morgan, a mystic of New Orleans’ lower 9th ward, captivated some of the most important musicians and artists of the 20th Century from Andy Warhol to King Britt. Now, we experience her through the eyes of 16-year-old Tae, who discovers herself while coming closer to the world of Sister Gertrude. Previously understood almost exclusively through the white male gaze, the story shifts to the women – a chorus of artists, scholars, and mothers who hold sacred space for Sister Gertrude. The feature film deconstructs the value of art and the radical act of self-agency as we dive deeper into the alchemy and mystery of creation.
